Why did you choose this area of dentistry?
My fascination began while assisting a periodontist in practice. My first experience with flap surgery left an impression on me. Seeing the alveolar bone after the flap was retracted, was both astonishing and enlightening. Observing the irregularities of bone defects and understanding how they could be addressed fuelled my enthusiasm.
Why did you choose the Master’s in Oral Health Sciences (OHS)?
I realized early on that I wanted to specialise in periodontology. After 4 years of experience, I decided to take the next step and pursue an official postgraduate education in periodontology. As an ’ACTA’s child’, having completed my dental education here, my first choice was naturally the Periodontology profile within the Oral Health Sciences.
What do you find most meaningful about the master’s programme?
I find the interdisciplinary approach particularly valuable, especially as cases become increasingly complex. Tackling such challenges often requires collaboration and input from multiple specialists, as solving them independently may not always be feasible. Discussions with other profiles will also maintain a critical mindset, which is important.
What do you find most challenging?
Reading the literature has been a challenge for me. I struggled particularly in the beginning, as I read quite slowly, which made the process time-consuming. However, step-by-step, I learned how to approach scientific articles more effectively.
What are your plans after graduation?
After graduation, I plan to combine working as a periodontist in a referral clinic with a role at ACTA. I enjoy teaching and sharing knowledge about periodontology, but I also want to contribute to the Periodontology department and ACTA that have played such an important role in shaping who I am today.
