The aim of this profile is to train postgraduate students in periodontology and implant dentistry at a specialist level.
Outline of the programme
The periodontal training is done through a programme of seminars and tutorials, which include an extensive review of the literature. Achievement of competences and proficiencies in advanced periodontics and surgical implant dentistry is the main objective, but this must be coupled with developing skills in clinical and basic research, critical thinking and appreciation to the detail and excellence. Furthermore, considerable time is allocated to the treatment of patients suffering from periodontal diseases who are referred by general practitioners. Also, education and clinics in implant dentistry specifically for periodontitis patients will be provided.
Extensive training in research within the broad field of periodontology or implant dentistry is part of the programme. The results of the research project conducted must be presented in the form of a manuscript (thesis) suitable for publication. The programme includes a residency in an accredited private periodontal practice, enabling the students to put theory into practice.
